OpenAI counts are exact — computed in your browser from OpenAI's own published tokenizer, so nothing you paste is sent anywhere. The exception is a model so new that OpenAI has not published its tokenizer yet, which we count with their latest published one and mark as an estimate. Claude is exact on request — press Get exact count and we ask Anthropic's official endpoint, which prices a whole message and so includes about 9 tokens of unavoidable framing. That is why short text reads higher for Claude than for OpenAI; on a long document the gap disappears. Gemini is an estimate: Google publishes no tokenizer we can run, so we scale the exact OpenAI count — usually within about 10% on prose. Nothing marked Estimate is a billing figure.
Free — OpenAI and Gemini counts are unlimited and never leave your browser.
Three models, side by side
The same text costs different amounts on each provider. See ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini together instead of guessing from one number.
Context window, not just a count
A raw token count means little on its own. Every card shows what share of that model's context window your text actually fills.
Your text stays in your browser
OpenAI's tokenizer is published, so we run it locally — nothing is uploaded and nothing is stored. No account, no limits.
Paste your text
A prompt, a whole article, a JSON payload, source code — anything. Counting starts as you type.
Each tokenizer runs
OpenAI's published BPE tables run in your browser. Claude's count comes from Anthropic's own free counting endpoint.
Compare and switch models
Change the model on any card to see how the count moves, and how close you are to filling its context.
