The tool supports hundreds of file types and tag formats, making it possible to standardize, clean or enrich files in bulk with a single script. Because it runs from the terminal it slots easily into automated workflows, backup routines and content pipelines where GUI apps would slow things down. Phil Harvey has maintained the project single-handedly for nearly two decades, releasing frequent updates that keep pace with new camera models and file standards.
